Term 1 Week 4

This week we have had the Winter Olympics as our provocation.

We were lucky to be able to sing Happy Birthday to Reuben this week.

During our weekly free swim session we were practising starfish floating.

On Tuesday, we  had the Science In a Van Show at Tawa School. The students learnt about forces through the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students learnt about friction and how we can change the amount of friction to move an object.

Statistics - We are learning to sort, compare and talk about data. We first investigated what colours our eyes are. We made a class graph and then counted the groups. We then   sorted our footwear into categories and used maths language to describe if groups had more less or the same.

Winter Olympic themed investigations. Students used their fine motor skills to flick the counter across the curling rink to try and land it in the circles. The students investigated what was the right amount of force needed to get a successful shot.

Another investigation was to create our very own Winter Olympic ice skate. The students created their very own unique design and then used their fine motor skills to thread and tie the shoe lace.

On Thursday we had fun practising our large ball skills in relay races.

For Friday arts we made our very own Winter Olympic skiers. This included adding fine details such as a uniform, skis and ski poles. After we had finished with our designs we tested them down Mount Tawa to see if they could become an Olympic champion.

Winter Olympic inspired PMP session including ice skating, skiing, curling and bobsleigh.
