Term 2 Week 5

This Week we celebrated Danika turning five in Room 14.

We are learning to name and label two dimensional shapes and talk about their attributes. We are learning the shape names in English and Te Reo Māori.

This term our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) focus is Kindness. We made kindness bees. We are going to display them with examples of ways we can 'Bee Kind' at school.

This week we introduced new toy cars to the Millennium space. It was great to see this brought out the best in the students key competencies through participating and contributing (sharing and teamwork), thinking (problem solving) and relating to others. The students made car tracks and ramps.

This week our swimming lessons continued. The students have been making great progress during their first four lessons.

As part of Samoan Language Week we designed our own siapo patterns. We drew them in sharpie and then dyed over them. What wonderful artists we have in Room 14.

Term 2 Week 4

On Monday we had the whole school cross country. Room 14 students showed amazing attitudes and perseverance to complete the course.

This term our maths strand focus is geometry. We are learning all about shapes and the attributes of shapes. We are learning to use the correct language to describe shapes. The words we are using are sides, corners, and faces. Today we had to draw a circle (porowhita), triangle (tapa toru) and square (tapa whā) of three different sizes. We then coloured them with pastel and dye. They look amazing and we are going to turn them into a class shape quilt.

Today to go with our Autumn provocation for the week. The students did some autumn colour leaf rubbing.

On Wednesday Tawa School was very lucky to have a performance from a Ghanaian band called Wala. They performed traditional Ghanian music and dance.

Today for art we used our provocation of the week Autumn, to create unique leaf pictures using pastel and dye.
