Term 1 Week 2

Even though this was only a short week with Teacher Only Day on Monday and Waitangi day on Tuesday. We still managed to fit in a lot of learning in three days.

This weeks provocation was bubbles. We started the week by reading the big book 'Bubbles'. This then led to some provocation activities during investigation time. These included bubbly water in the water tray outside, bubble blowing, popping fun and a bubble print art activity.

For the bubble prints the students blew bubbles with dye using a straw. Next they put a piece of paper over the bubbles to make a print. Then they added more colours to their print and observed the colours mixing. The students were able to manage the materials well and follow a series of verbal instructions.

The students also learnt how to say a simple phrase in Te Reo Māori. They learnt how to saywhat their name is.

We also continued with our PMP programme this week.  This week we focussed on balancing, crawling and following a sequence of verbal instructions.

A group of children chose to make boats as part of their investigations this week.  We were super impressed with the way the children used a variety of equipment and used their problem solving skills.
Our maths programmes also got underway this week.  Our main learning this week was one to one counting and adding two sets.  We use lots of different equipment at maths time to reinforce our learning.
We also continued to have lots of fun investigating in areas of our choice.  Here are a few of the things we enjoyed this week.
We are looking forward to another great week of learning next week.
